Who Does It Better? Men or Women?

What do you think?

Who does the softball coaching job better?

Men or women?

Women, I think, have an advantage as far as being able to relate to the players and understand them. However, men can sometimes get a response out of players that most women can't/don't get.

Then again, others will say that gender doesn't matter, it's the individual themselves that does.

BUT, "in general"
- what's your opinion?

Are men better at coaching women's softball or do women do a better job coaching female softball players?

If you're a Fastpitch World member - you can answer this question in the forum. If not, leave a
comment here and let me know what you think. I'm interested to see what you have to say.

I'm a male coach of a 12 and under team. I think a case could be made for both sides really. When I seek out a coach to provide one-on-one help in a particular area with my daughter (drag bunting mechanics for example), I always seek out a female. I've found that in her case (as well as many others) that she tends to respond better to a woman when it comes to specific parts of the game and/or areas that she struggles in. Fundamentally though, I think anyone (male or female) who knows the game who is coaching a group of girls who genuinely want to learn and become better players, can be successful.

Age has a lot to do with it too I think. Younger girls tend to really look up to older girls which results in better focus on what's being taught. I think when they get into high school, college, etc. they're beyond trying to imitate those with more experience as they're likely already good players in their own right.
